Mong-Lan, a noted Vietnamese poet, will read from her latest poetry book on December 13, 8 pm-9 pm, at Tamarind Cafe, Sukhumvit Soi 20. Admission is free.
    Born in Vietnam, poet, writer, painter, photographer, and Argentine tango dancer, MongLan left her native country on the last day of the evacuation of Saigon in 1975.  MongLan's first book of poems, “Song of the Cicada”, won the 2000 Juniper Prize, the 2002 Great Lakes Colleges Association's New Writers Awards for Poetry and was a finalist for the Poetry Society of America's Norma Farber First Book Award.  Her other books of poetry include “Why is the Edge Always Windy?”; “Tango: a Seismology” (forthcoming) and “Love Poem to Tofu and Other Poems”.
She received her Master of Fine Arts from the University of Arizona, was the recipient of a Wallace E. Stegner Fellowship in poetry for two years at Stanford University, and was a Fulbright Grantee in Vietnam. Her poetry has been frequently anthologized to include in “Best American Poetry”, “The Pushcart Book of Poetry: Best Poems from 30 Years of the Pushcart Prize”; and “Asian American Poetry —The Next Generation”. She has read her poetry, lectured and/or given academic presentations in Argentina, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Switzerland, United States and Vietnam.  – The Nation
