MISSING OF SAUDI BUSINESSMAN

Court refuses to declare Al-Ruwaili a missing person

The Civil Court rejects on Wednesday to declare a Saudi businessman who went missing 19 years ago, a missing person due to lack of evidence.

Public prosecutors file a complaint with the court in October seeking the court's order to declare Mohammad Al-Ruwaili a missing person.

Al-Ruwaili, who reportedly had close connection with Saudi palace went missing on February 12, 1990. Unconfirmed reports claimed he was kidnapped following having business conflicts.

The Court said it rejected the case on the ground that the public prosecutors did not provide enough evidence to convince the court that the businessman went missing from the Thai soil.

The prosecutors told the court that the businessman and his wife had ran a labour export business in Thailand in 1985. He went missing on February 12, 1990, he went missing after leaving his residence.

Police found his car abandoned in Bangkok Christian Hospital the following day.

Department of Special Investigation which investigated the missing contacted immigration office which testified that there was no record of him leaving Thailand. He did not contact Saudi Arabia Embassy in Thailand, the court was told.

The complaint was filed at the request of Al-Ruwaili's wife so that she could manage his assets.
