Raising green awareness among children
Establishing environmental awareness takes time, particularly among adults. Realising this, the Energy Ministry is turning its focus to children.
The Energy Seed project was kicked off seven years ago. This year, 24 teams consisting of 72 students and 41 teachers, attended the four-day camp at Pinehurst Golf and Country Club, Pathum Thani. They were selected based on their creative projects to conserve energy, exhibited under the theme "Energy Innovation for Green Globe". These campers had to win regional contests, hosted in Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Nakhon Ratchasima and Songkhla. At the camp, they would be updated on energy technology.
In his speech to open the camp, Energy Minister Arak Chonlatanon said children are the key to promoting environmental awareness in their communities. Given the changing environment, it is vital that all are equipped with knowledge to cope with the new challenges.
